Eagle: The Making of an Asian-American President

Eagle (JapaneseイーグルIguru ) is a 11 -volume manga series by the Japanese illustrator Kaiji Kawaguchi, which deals with the election campaign in the USA.

Action

Democratic Senator Kenneth Yamaoka wants to become the 43rd President of the United States. Not an easy task, because it is of Asian descent. Competitors there are in his own party, because Albert Nore, the current vice president, has interest in the highest office and is supported by President Bill Clyton.

The Japanese reporter Takashi Jo is included as election observers, so he writes a book about Yamaoka afterwards. The inexperienced reporter initially surprised by this opportunity, but soon learns that he is the illegitimate son of Kenneth and was probably brought only in order to avoid a possible scandal to America.

The manga informed with the progress of the story in great detail about the procedure and the backgrounds of the American election campaign. He discusses the motivation of the candidate and the collusion and intrigue in the background. The names of the President and Vice President are conscious allusions to Bill Clinton and Al Gore, who ruled the United States between 1992 and 2000.

Publications

Eagle released in Japan from 1998 to 2001 in separate chapters in the manga magazine Big Comic Shogakukan publishing and was summarized in 11 anthologies.

In German Eagle was published from June 2002 to January 2006 in full by Egmont Manga and Anime (EMA ).
