Earl Landgrebe

Earl Fredrick Landgrebe ( born January 21, 1916 in Valparaiso, Indiana, † June 29, 1986 ) was an American politician. Between 1969 and 1975 he represented the State of Indiana in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Earl Landgrebe attended the Union Township Elementary School and then the Wheeler High School. In 1936 he married Helen Lucille Field. He founded and led the company Landgrebe Motor Inc. Politically, he was a member of the Republican Party. Between 1959 and 1968 he sat in the Senate of Indiana.

In the congressional elections of 1968 was Landgrebe in the second electoral district of Indiana in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Charles A. Halleck on January 3, 1969. After two re- election he was able to complete in Congress until January 3, 1975 three legislative periods. In this time fell under the other end of the Vietnam War. Landgrebe was a supporter of President Richard Nixon. During the Watergate scandal he held in spite of the overwhelming evidence against the president on this. This behavior cost him re-election in 1974.

After his retirement from the U.S. House of Representatives to Landgrebe dedicated back the leadership of his company. In 1980 he fell to during a strike against his company, as he personally brought out the goods from the factory on strike, sparking a conflict with the strikers. He died on June 29, 1986 in Valparaiso.
