Earl of Jersey

Award

The title was for Edward Villiers, 1st Viscount Villiers, created in 1697. This was an important diplomat and politician of his time, the climb up to the highest offices of state.

Subordinate title

The first Earl was in the County of Kent, where already in 1691 created Viscount Villiers of Dartford in the County of Kent, and Baron Villiers of Hoo. Both titles, which also belong to the peerage of England, is carried as subordinate title.

The third Earl inherited the title of Viscount Grandison in 1766, of Limerick, who belongs to the Peerage of Ireland, by a distant relative. This was provided with a special note that he could pass on the male descendants of a niece of the first Viscount. Because of this clause of the third Earl inherited the title.

Expected heir ( Heir Presumptive ) is the younger half-brother of the present Earl, Hon Jamie Charles Child Villiers ( * 1994).
