Earl of Winchilsea and Nottingham

Earl of Winchilsea and Nottingham are two British hereditary title in the Peerage of England, which are connected since 1729 and are supported by the finch family.

Ceremonies

The title Earl of Winchilsea was created in 1628 for Elizabeth Finch. This was the wife of Moyle Finch, a longtime member of the House of Commons. After his death it was raised to the peerage.

The title Earl of Nottingham 1681 to Heneage Finch, a grandson of the Countess awarded. This was an important jurist of his time. He served in the highest judicial offices of the State (including as Attorney General ) and even later, as Lord Chancellor.

Subordinate title

The Earl of Winchilsea leads the subordinate title Viscount Maidstone, which was in 1623 at Elizabeth Finch, later Countess awarded. The additional title of Baron FitzHerbert of Eastwell, in Kent, was in 1660 awarded to the third Earl, for his support of the Stuart restoration.

Baron Finch, of Daventry in Northamptonshire is run as a subordinate title of the Earl of Nottingham. This title was 1673 Heneage Finch, later the Earl of Nottingham, awarded.

All titles are in the Peerage of England. The respective heir takes the courtesy title Viscount Maidstone.

More titles

Moyle Finch, Countess of Winchilsea the man who was already in 1611 a baronet, of Eastwell in Kent, collected. This title, which belongs to the Baronetage of England, is now handled by their respective Earl.

In contrast, the title of baronet, of Raunston in the county of Buckinghamshire, led by the Earl of Nottingham. He was Heneage Finch 1660, later the first Earl, awarded and also belongs to the Baronetage of England.
