Earl Reibel

Earl "Dutch " Reibel ( born July 21, 1930 in Kitchener, Ontario, † January 3, 2007 ) was a Canadian ice hockey player ( center ), who from 1953 to 1957 for the Detroit Red Wings, Chicago Black Hawks and Boston Bruins in the National Hockey League played.

Career

During his youth, he played together with Al Arbour at the Windsor Spitfires in the Ontario Hockey Association. As the first player in the OHA was able to score more than 100 points to him. He was after a year in the junior wide enough to play at senior level. He played in the next three years in the United States Hockey League with the Omaha Knights, in the American Hockey League with the Indianapolis Capitals and in the Western Hockey League for the Edmonton Flyers.

In the season 1953/54, the Detroit Red Wings were no longer help to bring the talented striker in their squad. With four assists in his first NHL game he set a still valid record. He storms in a row with Gordie Howe and Ted Lindsay and fulfilled expectations. With 48 points in his first year he made it into the top ten scorers in the NHL, but when choosing the Calder Memorial Trophy was pulled Camille Henry before as the best rookie. In the two following years he was to be found among the Topscorern and since he had only received ten minutes of penalties in the 1955/56 season, he was awarded the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy.

After his performance eased somewhat in the following years, he was released to the Chicago Blackhawks in December 1957. The change was a rough cut in his career and he could not build on past achievements. For next season they gave it to the Boston Bruins on. After a disappointing season with the Bruins, he had his career with the Providence Reds close in the AHL. When they wanted to leave him to San Francisco, he finished his career.
