Earle Morris, Jr.

Earle Morris, Jr. ( * July 14, 1928, † 11 February 2011) was an American politician of the Democratic Party.

During his political career, Morris was a member of both the House of Representatives and the Senate of South Carolina. In 1971 he was elected lieutenant governor, an office which he held until 1975. From 1976 to 1999 he was comptroller general of the state. His work with Morris earned much reputation, particularly in the northwest of South Carolina. In Pickens County, among others, a highway was named after him.

2003 got this reputation cracks when the company Carolina Investors, whose board was Morris, collapsed as a result of risky business. More than 8,000 investors lost their money, a sum of 275 million dollars and were thus deprived of their savings, college funds and providing for old age. Morris has now put together with some other executives for their role in the collapse of the company in court. He has spoken in 22 cases of stock market fraud and sentenced to three years and eight months in prison. He joined his detention on January 2008. In March 2010, he was for health reasons - released from custody - Morris was suffering from prostate cancer.

Morris died on 11 February 2011 at the age of 82 years. He was married.
