East Caicos

East Caicos is the easternmost island in the Caicos Islands and is part of the British overseas territory of the Turks and Caicos Islands.

The island is separated from Middle Caicos and South Caicos by narrow inlets, which are navigable only by small boats. The area of ​​East Caicos is about 90 km ². In addition, extensive marsh and tidal flats to the south and southeast, so that the land area is considerably larger at low tide (total about 182 km ²). On East Caicos is the Flamingo Hill, with a height of 48 meters, the highest "mountain" in the Turks and Caicos.

East Caicos is uninhabited for over 100 years. Formerly (until around the beginning of 1900) here were large sisal plantations and homes of farm workers. From the former capital of the island Jacksonville, located on the north coast, today only a few ruins are present.
