East Stirlingshire F.C.

The FC East Stirlingshire ( officially: East Stirlingshire Football Club ) is a Scottish football club based in Falkirk. The club plays in the Third Division, the fourth- highest division in Scottish football.

The club name is also often incorrectly abbreviated to East Stirling what led to believe that the club is located in the east of the city of Stirling, which, however, lies 14 miles away. Among the supporters of the club is nicknamed The Shire.

Club history

The club was founded in 1881 as Bainsford Britannia. Bainsford is a district of Falkirk. They were included in the professional league in 1900, but remained for most of the time in the deeper regions of the league system. The only major successes are the first place of the then second-rate Second Division in season 1931/32 and the second place in the Second Division 1963/64. But in the following season Shire rose each immediately off again. The home town of Falkirk is home to one professional football club, FC Falkirk, but East Stirlingshire is not considered a serious rival of Falkirk, with their permanent failure.

In the season 1964/65 the club moved to Clydebank to and operated under the name ES Clydebank, but legal action meant that they returned to Falkirk and its old name after just one season.

In July 1974, East Stirlingshire was the first coach station by Sir Alex Ferguson. At the time Shire had only eight registered players and no goalkeeper. Ferguson left the club after just three and a half months and went to FC St. Mirren.

The acting chairman and main shareholder Alan Mackin has stressed that he wants to sell the dilapidated Park Stadium Firs and may wish to move to the nearby town of Grangemouth in Grangemouth Stadium. Another possibility involves the stadium pitch with Falkirk Falkirk Stadium, and this is viewed critically because of the size that would be borne by the atmosphere.

East Stirling Shires form in recent years, far from good. In the season 2003/ 04 they could just collect eight points and could only prevent the last round, so that the eternal negative record was broken in the league. 2004/ 05 they finished, although again the last place, but were at least able to collect 22 points.

The constant bad occurrence in recent years and the lack of Annex let voices are loud, demanding that East Stirlingshire should be excluded from the Scottish professional league. In contrast to most other professional leagues, there is no way for amateur clubs, advancing into the ranks, unless a member dissolves. The last time this happened to Airdrieonians 2002. In the summer of 2005, the Scottish Football League on meeting the decided that from the 2005/06 season at any club that resulted in occupied twice the last place of the Third Division, is on the status of an ' associate member ' demoted and thus forfeits the right to to be allowed a say in league. After two more years will be voted whether this association is likely to still participate in the league on.

East Stirlingshire closed the 2005/06 season again at the end of the table from in the season 2006/2007 followed by the first victory on the opening day for 13 years. In the fourth season game East Stirlingshire defeated local rivals Stenhousemuir 5-0. That was the first time in over a decade that Shire with five goals won a game. The result was therefore something special, because just five months in the same game won 7-0 at the same place before, the Warriors. After this game, it sat for East Stirlingshire a 5-0 defeat at East Fife, reflecting the plight of the club.

After her opening win against Elgin City 2006/2007, sealed a 2-1 defeat at Elgin's Borough Briggs in April 2007 that Shire consecutively held for the fifth time the last place of the Third Division at the end of the season. The Scottish Football League immediately agreed, however, demote the club to an associate member and set the measure for one year from. This means that in the case would have a higher ranking than rank 10, East Stirlingshire should remain a full member, lost their right to vote at league meetings in the case of another " red lantern ". But East Stirlingshire managed to avoid this scenario and finish one point ahead of last but one season.
