Easter Cave

The Easter Cave is a small show cave near Trondorf, town of Neukirchen bei Sulzbach -Rosenberg.

The 185 meter long cave can be visited in the summer months. First mention was around 1630th The current input was artificially created in 1905, to open visitors as a show cave. The Easter cave was illuminated as one of the last caves in Germany with carbide lamps. On the walls of relatively high levels of manganese have been found. The origin of the name Easter cave is not clear, probably it comes from the location of the cave at the Osterberg, whose name in turn may be in communication with the Germanic goddess of the rising light Ostara.

In the cave cadastre Franconian Alb ( HFA) Easter cave is designated as A 94 and the Bavarian State Office for the Environment as Geotop 371H002. See also the list of geological sites in the district of Amberg -Sulzbach.
