Easter Group

The Easter Group, literal German translation Easter Group, is a small archipelago in the Indian Ocean, located about 60 km off the Western Australian coast. It forms the middle of the three atoll -like, arranged in a north- south line island groups in the Houtman Abrolhos - Archipelago.

Geography

The islands lie on a Riffplattform, which is approximately 22 km long and up to 18 km wide. The archipelago Easter Group located 12 km south of the Evening Reef the Wallabi Islands, and are separated from them by the Middle Channel. They are located 10 km north west of Pelsaert Islands, separated by the Zeewijk Channel.

The main island council Iceland by far the largest island of the group and the fifth biggest in the Houtman Abrolhos - archipelago. It is 1.6 km long and in the north about 600 meters wide. Their surface area is 65.3 hectares. It lies in the center of the lagoon and is accessible via the Good Friday Bay ( " Good Friday Bay " ) in the north. The Good Friday Bay offers a safe anchorage. There is a jetty on the northeast side.

Islands

For Easter Group includes 28 name officially named islands and 26 unofficially named small islands and rock formations such as " Campbell Islet ", each having only a few hundred square feet of space.

A subset of the Easter Group, the Eastern Islands (eastern islands). These form a separate small atoll -like structure that is separate from the rest of the Easter Group through the 1.7 km- wide Eastern Passage.
