Eastern Gate (Delft)

The Oostpoort in Delft, The Netherlands is the only remaining of the earlier five city gates in Delft. He is a listed building and is one of the Rijksmonumenten.

The Oostpoort was built around 1400 as a slightly built, a child for the City defense gate. The ground floor is designed as a single room, observe the environment from where about hatches and could be fired over loopholes. In the room is a staircase leading to the battlements of the original city wall in the subsequent stair tower is located. There was a guard room. The gate has a land and a water access, which are connected by the remains of a city wall. The water gate has a drive-through opening that could be closed with lattices.

From 1962 to 1964, the gate was completely restored and provided with two small studio apartments that have been joined together in 1988 to an apartment. The parapet has since been used as an exhibition space of an art gallery.
