The Eastern Ghats are a mountain range in the east coast of India, which runs parallel to the Bay of Bengal, from which it is separated by the Coromandel Coast. It is cut through by the four major rivers Godavari, Mahanadi, Krishna and Kaveri and thus divided into individual groups of mountains. The mountain range extends from West Bengal in the north by Odisha and Andhra Pradesh to Tamil Nadu to the south.

The area has fertile soil, the use of water power, however, is less profitable than in the Western Ghats. The Eastern Ghats reach an average of about 500 m lower altitudes than its western counterpart. The highest level of highs will be around 1600 m.
