The Eastern Hockey League was a professional minor league ice hockey in the United States.

Eastern Amateur Hockey League ( 1933-1953 )

1933, the League was formed with seven participating franchises as the Eastern Amateur Hockey League ( EAHL ) by Thomas Lockhart, who from 1972 League Commissioner EAHL was from the foundation and had collected hockey experience already in college sports.

After the first season, three more teams were added, so that the league reorganized and Frederick Rubien, the Sekrektär of the U.S. Olympic Committee, as their new president was elected.

The championship of the league was James J. Walker Trophy, after a Champions' Cup 1935 took place in a New York pawn shop and was used from then on as a championship trophy. In the late 1930s three seasons were played in a year, so that the trophy has been awarded three times during the year.

In 1948/49, continued the League for one season in, but already for the season 1949/50, the series came back with eight teams in 1953 was followed by the temporary halt in the league.

Eastern Hockey League ( 1954-1973 )

For the season 1954/55 the League was finally reorganized and continued under the name Eastern Hockey League.

1954 started the league with five teams, until 1959 this number had grown to twelve, which as also twelve teams in three divisions played until the end of the league in 1973 to the championship, so remained.

1972/73 provided the EHL a game operation and was replaced by the North American Hockey League and the Southern Hockey League, who took over the bulk of the EHL team.

Northeastern / Eastern Hockey League ( 1978-1981 )

In 1979, the Eastern Hockey League was revived under the same name. Despite the merger with founded a year earlier Northeastern Hockey League could not be buttoned to the success of previous days and so the game was shut down after only three years.
