Eastern Polynesian languages
The marque Saxon languages (English Marquesic languages , also: Marquesas group ) are a subgroup of the Polynesian languages within the large Austronesian language family. The language group with a total of 8,500 speakers comprised of three separate languages ( in square brackets, the language code according to ISO 639-3 are specified):
- Hawaiian [ haw ] (1,000 speakers)
- Mangareva [ mrv ] ( 2000 )
- Marquesanisch dialects: Northern [ mrq ] ( 3,400 ), South [ mqm ] ( 2100 )
Hawaiian is Hawaii (USA) spoke, the other two languages in French Polynesia (on Mangareva and the Marquesas Islands). Some researchers consider North and South Marquesanisch for two separate languages.
Note the distinction Marquesic ( language group ) - Marquesan (single language ) in English.
Studies based on the Austronesian Basic Vocabulary Database ( University of Auckland, New Zealand), however, suggest that the Hawaiian is classified in the Tahitian group (English Tahitic ).
