Eastpointe (formerly East Detroit ) is a city in Macomb County in the U.S. state of Michigan. According to the 2000 census, the population was 34,077. The city is adjacent to the 8- Mile Road on the northern edge of Detroit.

History

The area of the later church was first settled by Irish and German immigrants in the 1830s. In October 1897 a post office named " Half -way" was founded, as it was in the middle between downtown Detroit and the county seat in Mount Clemens. It was initially founded as a village Halfway in December 1924 and renamed in January 1929 in East Detroit. The city changed its name to Eastpointe, after a vote in 1992.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total land area of 13.2 km2.

Demographic data

According to the census of 2000 34.077 people in 13,595 households and 8,959 families living in the city. The population density was 2579.8 per km ². There were 13,965 housing units at an average density of 1057.2 per km ². There were 13,595 households in which children lived in 30.2 % of cases under 18 years. In 48.6% of cases are due to married couples, 12.3 % had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.1% were non-families. 28.8 % of all households were made up of individuals and 13.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.50 and the average family size was 3.11.

Economy

Motor Boating Association American Power Boat Association, which was founded in 1903, is headquartered in Eastpointe. The Spirit Airlines was founded in 1980 as Charter One in Eastpointe, where he had moved its headquarters to 1999 as the company is located to Miramar in the state of Florida.
