Eating disorder not otherwise specified

EDNOS is an acronym for Eating Disorder Not Otherwise Specified.

Under this disease (specified under the diagnostic code 307.50 of the DSM -IV and the key F50.9 ICD -10), those eating disorders combined, representing either a mixed form of anorexia nervosa, bulimia, and obesity or are not unique to one of these disorders. These include for example:

  • Women who meet the criteria of anorexia nervosa ( anorexia ), but do not have regular menstrual bleeding
  • When all criteria of anorexia nervosa are met, but despite significant weight loss still normal weight is present (→ Body Mass Index )
  • Actually if the criteria are met for bulimia, but occur " binge eating " seizures or inadequate behavior after eating less often than 2x/week or over a shorter period than three months
  • At normal body weight inadequate behavior after taking normal amounts of food (eg, self-induced vomiting after eating two cookies )
  • Large amounts of food to be chewed up and spit it, but not swallowed.
