Eaton County, Michigan

Eaton County is a county located in the state of Michigan in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Charlotte.

Geography

The County is located in the middle south of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan and has an area of 1500 square kilometers, of which seven square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Clinton County, Ingham County, Jackson County, Calhoun County, Barry County and Ionia County.

History

Eaton County was formed in 1829 as an original county of free territory. It was named after John Henry Eaton, a U.S. Secretary of War. The county is one of the so-called Cabinet counties since it was like some other named after a member of the cabinet of U.S. President Andrew Jackson.
