Ebbe Nielsen

Ebbe Schmidt Nielsen ( born June 7, 1950 in Ry, Denmark, † March 7, 2001 in California, United States) was a Danish entomologist.

He studied at the University of Aarhus. From 1981 until his death, he lived and worked in Australia. He was specialized in the taxonomy of insects, particularly with respect to the Butterfly research and has help to implement the Global Biodiversity Information Facility ( GBIF ). Nielsen has published over 80 articles and several books and was highly regarded in the professional world, which is why he received several awards. He died in 2001 of a heart attack in California.

After his death, the ebb -Nielsen Prize was donated by the GBIF, which has since been awarded annually to promising researchers in the field of biodiversity.
