Eber

Boar ( עֵבֶר ) was according to the report in the first book of the chronicles (18 ) as well as after the table of nations in Genesis, Gen 10,21.25 f, a son of Shelah, and thus a great-grandson of Noah's son Sem Sometimes you will also find the spellings Ewer and Heber, but he should not be with jack, the grandson of Asher, confused, who writes in Hebrew חבר.

Ebers sons were Peleg (which is why that in his time the earth was divided ) and Joktan. According to Genesis 11:17 Eber were born at the age of thirty-four years, Peleg lived after the birth of four hundred and thirty years, and begat sons and daughters.

According to tradition, Eber died at the age of 464 years, when Jacob was 20 years old. The Hebrew calendar after this would correspond to 1817 BC.

As an ancestor of Abraham he is venerated by the Jews; is often considered his name as eponym for the Hebrews, but he is also interpreted as a field on the other side or simply as beyond, meaning it " beyond the river ", ie the Euphrates.

Kingdom boar

After the prophecies of Balaam boar seems to have been a Syrian kingdom. He is, along with Assyria, the destruction by the ships of Kittim (probably Kition in Cyprus ) threatened.

Legends of boar

According to the legend, Eber refused to participate in the construction of the Tower of Babel, which is why the language of Eber and his descendants had not been confused. Therefore, the Hebrew applies, according to this legend as the original language of mankind ( " lingua humana ").

In the midrashic literature boar is considered to be a prophet and one of the first Gotteskünder; to him Abraham and Jacob have learned.

Eber is considered another tradition according as the ancestor of the Avars.
