Eberhard Blum

Eberhard Blum ( born July 28, 1919 in Kiel, † 9 July 2003 in Stuttgart) was in the period from December 27, 1982 until July 31, 1985 President of the Federal Intelligence Service.

Blum served in World War II as an officer in the Wehrmacht, most recently with the rank of Captain. Since 1947 he was in the Gehlen Organization, the forerunner of the BND, worked as a personal assistant to Gehlen. From 1961 to 1964 he headed the sub-department staff of the BND to then from 1964 to 1968 to work as a resident of the service in London. From 1968 to 1970 he was employed as head of the Division IV (Administration) at the headquarters in Pullach. In 1970 he was transferred to Washington as a resident. This post he retained until his appointment as President of the Authority on 27 December 1982.

Eberhard Blum was married to Gabriele von Gusmann. The marriage produced three children. A son is the economist Ulrich Blum.
