ebm-papst

The ebm -papst Group is a manufacturer of electric motors and fans. It was formed in 2003 from the merger of Elektrobau Mulfingen GmbH & Co. KG ( ebm ), Pope Motoren GmbH in St. Georgen and the motors fans Landshut GmbH ( mvl ). The company employs around 11,000 people, spread across 17 production facilities (including Germany, China, USA ) and 57 sales offices worldwide. The headquarters is located in Mulfingen in Hohenlohe, Germany

History

In 1963, Gerhard Sturm, together with Heinz Ziehl, the son of Emil Ziehl, the Elektrobau Mulfingen GmbH & Co. KG. The then 35 employs a team company focused on the development and production of small external rotor motors. In 1965, the first compact fans EC technology were finally developed at this time specified or brushless DC motors.

In 1992 the ailing company Pope Motoren GmbH was taken over in St. Georgen in the Black Forest, which was founded by Hermann Pope, in 1985 180 million mark in sales generated and employed 1,700 people. Since then the company Ebm -papst is called. In 1993, at the St. Georgen and in Herbolzheim of the formerly independent company Pope Motoren GmbH only 750 employees work.

The purchase of the Landshut plant Alcatel and the simultaneous renaming in motors fans Landshut GmbH ( mvl ) was carried out in 1997. A year later, the first energy-saving centrifugal and axial fans with integrated electronics developed, whereupon among other things, brought in the following years for the market ebm -papst EC fans are based. 2003, the renaming of the three companies in ebm- papst Mulfingen, ebm -papst St. Georgen and ebm -papst Landshut took place. 2007 began the construction of energy-autonomous factory for energy-saving fans in Mulfingen - Hollenbach, which was commissioned in 2008.

2007 exceeded ebm-papst first time the turnover threshold of one billion euros. Gerhard Sturm was Chairman of the Board. Since 2008, only non-family managers are employed in the management. The export share of sales was 72 % in fiscal year 2011/12.

2012, the company had 1,500 employees in China and two factories.

Products

Motors and Fans of ebm-papst group are in the different fields of application in use, including the Semper Opera in Dresden, on the roofs of Australian supermarkets, in computers or refrigerators. With nearly 20,000 products, the company has claims to be the world's largest range of fans and serves customers in many different industries. Ebm -papst products are, inter alia, in the ventilation, air -conditioning and refrigeration technology, household appliances, heating engineering, in IT and telecommunications applications, as in the automotive and commercial vehicle technology in action.

The fans are mostly based on external rotor motors, as can be achieved with these very compact axial, radial and mixed flow fans. Motors for propulsion equipment will be partially conceived as internal rotor.

As motors come in recent years increasingly energy- efficient and quiet electronically commutated motors. These are available in versions for 1 - or 3 - phase AC and DC 12-48 volts. EC motors have already integrated electronics very good control and control properties, to integrated pressure, temperature or flow control. The integrated electronics also reduces the amount of wiring than a comparable conventional solution. Due to the possibility of a bus connection, these units can be networked and controlled centrally. Many new innovative ways are user-friendly set via the bus system ( ebmBUS or Modbus). To this end, various computer programs offered, ranging up to the wireless configuration of the fan motor or by mobile phone.

Alternatively classic AC motors for 1 continue - or 3- phase AC available. The fans produced have axial or radial fan wheel between about 30 mm and 1250 mm in diameter and are also developed itself. Cross flow fan, as used in the façade ventilation, are also in the product. The impellers are made of either plastic, metal or recently manufactured as metal-plastic material combination. This novel combination provides high strengths, as are customary for metal wheels with simultaneous variable formability.

In 2009, the "green" fan series HyBlade came on the market. The plastic wings consisting of introduced with aluminum reinforcement product group allows a low power consumption and low noise. The newest product which was introduced in the spring of 2011 is a motor housing parts are made of a wood-plastic composite.

GreenTech

His pursuit of environmental protection and energy saving measures summarizes ebm -papst, the term " GreenTech " together. Measures are, inter alia, a CO ₂ - oriented fleet conversion, insulated buildings, energy savings in compressor stations and production facilities. Selection of awards in Greentech:

  • Environmental Award 2008 ( Baden- Württemberg) for environmentally oriented behavior of an industrial enterprise: among other things, Operate their own bus lines for Mulfingen (required for 1,200 employees → less traffic and fewer parking spaces)
  • Dena Energy Efficiency Award 2009 for a new plant in Germany (20 million investment ). The work does not require energy for heating, ventilation and air conditioning
  • Green Award 2009 (Baden- Württemberg) for a hybrid axial fan ( on energy -efficient material usage )
  • Nomination Hermes Award 2010 (Hannover Messe) can be saved for a fan fiction with 50% power and noise ( potential savings one large power plant in Europe)
  • 2012 Award winner in the 365 Landmarks in the Land of Ideas competition ( on energy Scouts / elimination of energy wastage in production)
  • New development strategy " Every new product has to be better than its predecessor "; CO ₂ reduction in production (including plant construction, green roof ) and processes (including painting; heating and compressor systems ).
  • German Sustainability Award 2013: Special Prize " resource efficiency "
