Ecbasis captivi

" Ecbasis cuiusdam Captivi by tropologiam " (escape of a prisoner in symbolical phraseology ) is a major Latin poetry probably from the mid-11th century, which is attributed to the monastic literature. Approaches to early dating put the writing in the 10th century.

In the framework of the existing act of 1170 hexameters animal seal is reported about the escape and safe return of a calf, while the well-known Aesop's story of the fox who recommends the healing of the lion through the fur of the wolf, represents the actual narrative. The satirical story contains a wealth of contemporary historical allusions and quotations of ancient authors and is the oldest zoo seal of German literary history dar. summary at Kindermann 1979.

Two manuscripts of the work were found by Jacob Grimm in Brussels and in 1838 published.
