Ecdeiocoleaceae

The Ecdeiocoleaceae are a family of plants that belongs to the Süßgrasartigen ( Poales ). In this family, there are only two monotypic genus, so only two types. The two kinds of Ecdeiocoleaceae are endemic and have their only areas in southwestern Australia.

Description

The two types of Ecdeiocoleaceae are perennial herbaceous plants with rhizomes. The alternate leaves are arranged ( reduced to scales), simple, sessile, parallel-veined and entire.

In small inflorescences aged men, some flowers are summarized. They are monoecious getrenntgeschlechtig ( monoecious ); in the spikelets are female and male flowers together. The small, unisexual flowers are triple. There are six different polymorphic bloom yet. In the male flowers are four or six fertile, free stamens present. In the female flowers two carpels are fused into a superior ovaries, there are two free pens, each provided with a scar. Pollination is by wind ( anemophily ).

There shall be seeded capsule fruits or achenes.

System

There are only (one or ) two genera with only two ( or three) species in the family of Ecdeiocoleaceae:

  • Ecdeiocolea: With only one type: Ecdeiocolea monostachya F.Muell. Grows on acidic soil and reaches heights of growth of 0.4 to 1 m and plant diameter 1 m. The male flowers have four stamens.
  • Georgeantha hexandra BGBriggs & LASJohnson: Grows in seasonal wetlands on sand and reaches stature heights of 0.5 to 0.8 m.

These two species were previously included in the family of Restionaceae. The closest relatives are the Joinvilleaceae and Poaceae.
