Echinacoside is a glycoside in the roots of the narrow-leaved coneflower (Echinacea angustifolia ) and the purple coneflower (Echinacea purpurea) occurs.
Chemically, it consists of 2 mol of glucose and 1 mol of rhamnose glycoside of 2 - bound (3,4- dihydroxyphenyl ) ethanol, and esterified with caffeic acid. It thus belongs also to the group of carboxylic acid esters and phenols.
Echinacoside antibiotic, anti-inflammatory and immune-stimulating effects are attributed.
