Echinopsis spachiana is a species of the genus Echinopsis in the cactus family ( Cactaceae ). The specific epithet honors the spachiana employed at the Jardin du Roi E. Spach.

Description

Echinopsis spachiana growing shrubby with several from the base, branched, erect branches and reaches stature heights of up to 2 meters. The cylindrical actuators have diameters from 5 to 6 centimeters. There are ten to 15 low and rounded ribs available. The located on them large areolae are covered with curly, yellow wool and are available up to 1 inches apart. The springing from them straight, reddish yellow spines are whitish in old age. The single central spine is 1 to 2 inches long. The eight to ten spines have a length of from 0.4 to to 1 centimeter.

The funnel-shaped, white flowers open at night. They are 18 to 20 inches long and have a diameter of up to 15 centimeters. The flower tube is very hairy.

Distribution and systematics

Echinopsis spachiana is common in the Argentine province of Santiago del Estero in the lowlands.

The first description as Cereus spachianus by Charles Lemaire was published in 1839. Heimo Frederick and Gordon Douglas Rowley set the style in 1974 in the genus Echinopsis.

Further nomenclatural synonyms are Echinocereus spachianus ( Lem. ) Rümpler (1885 ) and Trichocereus spachianus ( Lem. ) Riccob. (1909). Following taxa were included as a synonym in the way: Cereus santiaguensis Speg. (1905 ), Trichocereus santiaguensis ( Speg. ) Backeb. (1959) and Echinopsis santiaguensis ( Speg. ) H.Friedrich & GDRowley (1974).
