Echo Summit

The Echo Summit is a mountain pass in the eastern part of El Dorado County in the U.S. state of California. The 2,250 m high pass lies between the valleys of the rivers South Fork American River and Truckee River. It is crossed by the designated as the El Dorado Freeway here U.S. Highway 50, which connects the city on the eastern side of the valley Meyers with the sparsely populated valley of the American River.

History

For the first time the pass was passable in 1913 by the construction of the Lincoln Highway, which as Sierra Nevada Southern Route (also Pioneer route ) was here.

From 6 to 16 September found at this altitude the competitions for the selection of participating in the Olympic Games U.S. athletes take to get used to the altitude of the former venue Mexico City. For this purpose, a first plastic sheeting was built. During the competitions four new world records were set.
