Ecklak

Ecklak is a municipality in the district of Steinburg, in Schleswig- Holstein. The municipality belongs to the district Ecklak - Austrich.

Geography and transport

Ecklak is located about ten kilometers northeast of Brunsbuttel and 14 kilometers west of Itzehoe on the Kiel Canal at the periphery of natural areas Wilstermarsch and Kudenseemoor. A few kilometers south of Ecklak extend the federal highway 5 and the railway line from Itzehoe to Brunsbuttel. In addition, the Wilsterau flows through the community.

History

The town was first mentioned in 1319.

Policy

Of the nine seats in the municipal council has the voter community AEI since the municipal election 2008, four seats, the CDU has three and the voter community KWV two seats.

The coat of arms refers to the name of the municipality, on acorns ( nd eek ) and shallow water ( mnd. lake) is derived. The green background refers both to the importance of agriculture as well as on the natural spatial location of the municipality on the western edge of the Wilstermarsch.
