Eclipse Foundation

The Eclipse Foundation is to conduct a non-profit organization with the task of the Eclipse open source community and their projects. The Eclipse Foundation also coordinates all complementary products and services which are referred to in the internal language as the ecosystem.

Definition of Terms

Behind the name hides an Eclipse open source community, usually referred to as Eclipse community. The goal of this community is to provide a platform for the development of software under different IT projects.

Developed by the Eclipse community software Eclipse platform is also commonly referred to as Eclipse, and consists of various backbones can be expanded very easily. It also provides tools and runtime environments for the whole process of software development are offered.

The term Eclipse Foundation, however, the nonprofit coordinating company is always meant.

History of the Eclipse Foundation

The first Eclipse - IT project was founded in November 2001 by IBM and supported by a consortium of leading software vendors. These included companies such as Borland, IBM, Rational Software, Red Hat, SuSE and Together Soft. In February 2004, the reorganization was carried out in a real open source project led by the Eclipse Foundation.

The Eclipse community today consists of different companies and individuals from all areas of the software development industry. Finance and Membership

The Eclipse Foundation is funded mainly by annual contributions from its members, and there are four different types of member:

Organization

The management of the Eclipse Foundation is carried out under U.S. law by a mixture of the Supervisory Board and Board of Directors, the Board of Directors.
