Eclipse of Thales

The Battle of the Halys on May 28, 585 BC between Alyattes II of Lydia and Cyaxares the Median king II ended in a draw. According to Herodotus, moving an incoming during the battle eclipse ( predicted by Thales of Miletus ) the warring parties to peace. The exact dating of the battle was possible on the calculation of this eclipse. This is the first historical event that can be dated to the day.

The river Halys is located in modern day Turkey and is called Kızılırmak.
