Ecma International

Ecma International ( Ecma ) is a private, international standards organization for the standardization of information and communication systems and consumer electronics, based in Geneva. The organization was founded in 1961 with the name of ECMA - European Computer Manufacturers Association founded. The name was changed in 1994 to reflect the international nature of the accounting organization. Consequently, the name part Ecma has lost its meaning ( abbreviation for European Computer Manufacturers Association).

Objectives

Objectives of Ecma International are:

  • The development of standards and technical reports in collaboration with national, European and international standards organizations.
  • The promotion of the proper use of standards.
  • The publication of standards and technical reports. The publications are freely accessible.

Publications

So far, Ecma International has published more than 370 standards and more than 90 technical reports. These publications are in the public domain. Among the better-known publications include, among others:

  • The standardization of C # and other components of the. NET technology from Microsoft

Design and Structure

Members

There may be members only companies or other legal entities that are active in areas that are covered by the technical committees and working groups. Individuals may not members of Ecma International are. There are five types of memberships, only full members have voting rights at the Annual General Meeting. The classification of associate members will be based on annual worldwide turnover. Membership is chargeable.
