Eco-Schools

Eco- School is a program or an award for schools that implement environmental concerns in school life and promote environmental education.

Basics

In 1992, the United Nations landmark UN Conference on Environment and Development (On Environment and Development) took place. In June 1995, agreed to fix the Conference of State Coordinators of the international OECD / CERI network Environment and School Initiatives ( ENSI) at a conference in Vienna, ECO -Schools as one of the five common themes.

Global Eco-Schools of FEE

The Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE, Foundation for Environmental Education ), a non-governmental organization in Copenhagen has launched this program in place since 1994.

The conditions include a conscious involvement enabled aspects of environmental protection and sustainability concept, and is in the spirit of the Earth Charter and the Local Agenda 21 to the topics of the program include water, waste, energy and school environment performance, plus nature and biodiversity, transport and sustainable mobility, health, noise, and climate change. The aim is to integrate eco-conscious education into the classroom, and to develop a school's environmental conduct.

The price is the Green Flag ( Green Flag ), in some countries in gold, silver and bronze.

The project is done in collaboration with, among others, the UNEP and the European Union, where it transmitted the European Social Fund is promoted in the less favored countries. It was (as of March 2010) implemented in 47 countries - including almost all European countries - and included 32,000 schools worldwide

ÖKOLOG in Austria

Austria is not the FEE program does not participate, but has since 1995 an independent project called greening of schools - is Education for Sustainability ( ÖKOLOG ) launched the Ökoschulen pricing and the Ministry of Education operated .. In 1986, the program was Environment and School Initiatives been established at the initiative of the Minister of Education by the Austrian Center for Educational Research and Innovation ( CERI ) of the OECD to the ÖKOLOG is a welcome addition. For this, the platform was set up as a project of the FORUM environmental education.

The ÖKOLOG activity fields are to the FEE -themed analogue: avoid emissions, save culture of teaching and learning, health promotion, sustainable consumption and lifestyles, resources, space in and around the school, school development and education program, or collaboration with the school environment. Connecting Punke is available with the Healthy School, IMST Fund, Youth Innovative and Sparkling Science programs.

In 1996 the project with 22 pilot schools was begun in 2000 ran the platform. Today in Austria are 382 schools (as of 5/2012 ) in ÖKOLOG program active, and call themselves Ökoschule.
