Economic appraisal

An Appraisal (Eng. " review", "assessment" ) is a review of an organization in implementing the requirements of a process model, such as Capability Maturity Model Integration ( CMMI). The previous model, Capability Maturity Model (CMM ) and ISO / IEC 15504 (SPICE ) use at this point the term assessment instead Appraisal - meant is the same.

However, the Software Engineering Institute ( SEI) of Carnegie Mellon University as an author of CMMI Appraisal used as a generic term, while assessment refers only to those appraisals that are used to their own process improvement. In addition, there is the concept of evaluation, ie a appraisal, which is carried out by a (potential) client for selection or monitoring of its suppliers. In CMM, there were various methods for assessment and evaluation. In CMMI, these were summarized, and it is now only Appraisals of the speech. In the relevant ISO / IEC 15504 there is this distinction, but as a generic term assessment is used here.

Appraisal Types

The SEI defines three types of appraisals:

Method

The SEI has for each of the three appraisal types published a procedure (Standard CMMI Appraisal Method for Process Improvement, SCAMPI short ). This appraisal methods examine the implementation of the Capability Maturity Model Integration ( CMMI) in an organization. For the implementation of a SCAMPI Appraisals by the approach of the SEI a trained and authorized by the SEI Lead Appraiser is (or Team Lead) necessary. An evaluation of an organization with a level of maturity is an industry-recognized award.
