Écoteaux

Ecoteaux was until 31 December 2011, a municipality in the district of Lavaux-Oron in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland. On January 1, 2012, it merged with Oron.

Geography

Ecoteaux is located on 766 m above sea level. M., 4 km south-east of Oron- la -Ville and 18 km east of the canton capital Lausanne ( straight line ). The scattered settlement municipality extends on a terrace overlooking the valley of Broye, in the eastern marginal zone of Vaud Mittelland.

The area of ​​3.6 km ² large former municipal area comprises a portion of Molassehügellandes in the foothills. The southern boundary is formed by the upper reaches of the Broye whose direction of flow is characterized here by a sharp curve initially southwest to northwest. From the Broye the former communal land extends as a narrow strip north across the slope of Ecoteaux which is inclined gently to the west, to the Valley of Mionne. On the Molassehöhenrücken between Broye and Mionne is 810 m above sea level. M. reached the highest point of Ecoteaux. From the former rural community area in 1997 7 % was attributable to settlements, 15 % of forest and woody plants and 78% to agriculture.

Population

With 356 inhabitants ( 31 December 2010) Ecoteaux one of the small former municipalities of the canton of Vaud. History

The former municipality of Ecoteaux was already inhabited in Roman times, as could be shown by the discovery of the remains of a settlement dating from the 2nd and 3rd centuries. The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1134 under the name Escotals and Escoit. Later, the names Scotals ( 1157 ) published, Costels ( also in the 12th century), Escotaus ( 1233 ), Escotaz ( 1251 ), and even in 1900 the spelling Ecotteaux was used. The name was formed by agglutination of it Coteaux ( on the slopes / hills ).

Since the Middle Ages Ecoteaux was under the rule Palézieux. After the conquest of Vaud by Bern, the village came in 1557 to the Bernese bailiff Oron. After the collapse of the ancien régime Ecoteaux belonged from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic to the canton of Geneva, who came up then with the enactment of the Act of Mediation in the canton of Vaud. 1798 was assigned to the District Oron. 1872 Very hamlet and the former castle came to the municipality of maracones.

Attractions

The school house with bell tower was built in 1842. Ecoteaux does not have its own church, it belongs to the parish maracones.
