The ECW Championship ( ECW Championship to German ) was a major wrestling title of World Wrestling Entertainment and was assigned to individual wrestlers of the ECW roster. Introduced in April 1992, the title originally belonged to the members of the National Wrestling Alliance wrestling promotion NWA Eastern Championship Wrestling and Extreme Championship Wrestling later. In June 2006, the title of the WWE was reactivated. On 16 February 2010, the title was eventually discontinued because the Wrestling ECW show was not produced any longer. As in Wrestling common practice was the award after a predetermined storyline.

History

The ECW Championship had its origin in the NWA Eastern Championship Wrestling Heavyweight Championship. Eastern Championship Wrestling was a member of the umbrella organization National Wrestling Alliance. In August 1994, Eastern Championship Wrestling taught in Philadelphia a tournament with the title Walk over the line (German Cross the bridge ) for the vacant NWA World Heavyweight Championship from. On August 27, 1994 was therefore awarded the former ECW title holder Shane Douglas as the winner of the tournament in addition, the NWA World Heavyweight Championship. It came to a head, as this title is not as originally planned ( storyline ) accepted, but the NWA title basically declared as unimportant and refused. He declared himself " ECW World Heavyweight Champion " and the year 1994 as the year of the ECW. End of the month left the NWA Eastern Championship Wrestling and changed its name to Extreme Championship Wrestling, after which the title was officially renamed Extreme Championship Wrestling World Heavyweight Championship. The title remained active until the closure of ECW on 11 April 2001.

Revive Following the decision of World Wrestling Entertainment ECW on 13 June 2006 as an independent brand ( ECW roster ), also the former ECW Heavyweight title was reactivated and the former owner Paul Heyman Rob Van Dam as a reward for winning the WWE Championship passed.

Title holders

The first ECW champion was Jimmy Snuka, which Salvatore Bellomo defeated for the title in the first match. The Sandman has the most regencies ( 5) as ECW Champion. The longest title reign had Shane Douglas holds in his fourth reign with 406 days. The reign of the last ECW Champion Ezekiel Jackson is the shortest reign with less than 3 minutes. He won the title in the last edition of ECW by defeating Christian. Overall, there were 49 ECW Championship reigns among 32 honorees.
