Ed Caruthers

Ed Caruthers (actually Edward J. Caruthers Jr., born April 13, 1945 in Oklahoma City ) is a retired American high jumper.

In 1964, he was U.S. champion and eighth at the Olympic Games in Tokyo.

1965 and 1967 he was U.S. vice- champion in 1967, he won at the Pan American Games in Winnipeg.

The winner of the U.S. elimination fights he went in 1968 to the Olympic Games in Mexico City. There he had, despite his personal best of 2.22 m his compatriot Dick Fosbury beaten, who crossed 2.24 m with the flop named after him, and won silver before Valentin Gavrilov from the Soviet Union (2.20 m).
