Edward Lee " Ed" Jones ( born February 23, 1951 in Jackson, Tennessee, USA; Nickname: Too Tall ) is a former American football player in the National Football League ( NFL). He played as a defensive end for the Dallas Cowboys.

Playing career

College career

Jones visited in his hometown high school. After finishing school he studied at the Tennessee State University, where he played basketball and American football. After two years of study he ran to just for the football team his college.

Playing career

Ed Jones was drafted in 1974 by the Dallas Cowboys in the first round in the first place. The Cowboys were coached by defensive specialist Tom Landry, which was the former defensive tackle and member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame Ernie Stautner as an assistant coach for the Defense of the team to the side. The crew of the Cowboys had one of the most feared defenses in the NFL. She took a history as the " Doomsday Defense" in the NFL. Jones was able to seamlessly fit into the defense of the team, which already played players like Bob Lilly, Ralph Neely or Harvey Martin. In his second year playing with the team from Dallas, Jones was able to establish himself as a starter. In the same year he entered with the team in the Super Bowl. The Super Bowl X against the Pittsburgh Steelers went with 17:21 lost. Jones came as a starter for use.

In the 1977 season, the Cowboys were able to prevail in Super Bowl XII against the Denver Broncos with 27:10. Again Jones ran into the root formation of the cowboys. The following year, Jones managed the third entry into the Super Bowl. However, the Steelers were able to prevail again against the Cowboys, they won the Super Bowl XIII with 35:31.

After the game round in 1978, Jones retired from football sports and became a professional boxer. He fought as a heavyweight boxer mainly against young boxer, but also was able to defeat the Mexican heavyweight champion Fernando Montes by knockout. After a year as a boxer, he returned to the Cowboys.

1989 ended Too Tall Jones his playing career. He could move his team ten times in the play-offs. Jones played 224 times for the Cowboys, of which 203 times as a starter. It is thus record holder for the Texas football team. As Bill Bates and Mark Tuinei he ran for 15 years for the Cowboys. With its 106 achieved bag he is the third of the Dallas Cowboys leaderboard.

Honors

Ed Jones was five times elected to the All-Pro three times and played in the Pro Bowl, the final game of the best players of the season.

Away from the NFL

Too Tall Jones appeared already during his career in smaller film and television roles and starred in TV shows with, such as Married with Children ( Season 6, Episode 15 - The commercial ). He owes his height of 206 cm his nickname.
