Ed King

Edward C. King ( born September 14, 1949 in Glendale ( California)) is a musician who has become known in Germany primarily as a guitarist for the southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Life

In the U.S., he co-founded the mid-1960s band Strawberry Alarm Clock had commercial success in 1967 with the mitgeschriebenen of him song " Incense and Peppermints ", for which he was not originally specified as co-author. In some joint appearances of Strawberry Alarm Clock and Lynyrd Skynyrd King learned in February 1970 know the band, but which he joined in 1972. After he was to replace only the beginning bassist Leon Wilkeson stepped out, King returned to his return back to the guitar and so typical for Lynyrd Skynyrd line-up with three guitarists emerged. In order to be heard alongside the two other guitars from the band's sound, he switched to a Fender Stratocaster. He plays this type of guitar today and almost exclusively.

King co-wrote with singer Ronnie Van Zant some famous songs of the band. Among the song created with the additional participation of Gary Rossington the group " Sweet Home Alabama ", which appeared on the second album "Second Helping " 1974. He also still on debut album " Pronounced leh - nerd skin- nerd " in 1973 and the third studio album " Nuthin ' Fancy" in 1975 in part. All three albums have in the United States in 1974 and 1975, respectively gold status. On the debut album King plays except for the song "Mississippi Kid" only bass, with the other two albums almost exclusively guitar. In June 1975, King decided due to increasing drug, alcohol and personal problems in the group for leaving the band. King makes for the negative changes in the band especially the Neuverpfichtung by Peter Rudge as a manager, this was also the case of the British rock band The Who, responsible. Regardless, he escaped as the plane crash on 20 October 1977, in which several band members were killed.

The Reunion Lyrnyrd Skynyrd in 1987, King was a reappearance, was sidelined again because of heart problems in 1996. Kings desire for re-entry into the band after recovery was not complied with by the group, although there should have been to Kings details of such an agreement. It came to a lawsuit. 2006 King was taken together with all other members of the band from the time before the plane crash into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He now lives with his wife and dogs in Nashville, Tennessee.

In spring 2012, a heart transplant was performed, which was successful and well-healed.
