Ed Reed

Edward Earl Reed Jr. ( born September 11, 1978 in St. Rose, Louisiana) is an American professional American football player at the position of the free safeties. He plays for the New York Jets in the National Football League ( NFL).

Career

Reed played college football for the University of Miami. Together with future NFL players like Andre Johnson, Jeremy Shockey and Bryant McKinnie, he was part of that team that won the NCAA championship undefeated in 2001. He was selected by the Baltimore Ravens in the first round of the NFL Draft 2002. The team led by linebacker Ray Lewis Reed established as a valuable reinforcement, who was elected already in the second year as a pro in the Pro Bowl. In the 2004 season he was after a good season (64 solo tackles, nine interceptions, 358 yards space thanks interceptions and three touchdowns ) awarded the NFL Defensive Player of the Year.

When the Baltimore Ravens under head coach Brian Billick, who had at that time a dominant defense, but never very good quarterbacks ( Kyle Boller still neither Steve McNair could convince permanently ), Reed until 2007 reached only twice the play-offs. Both times they were separated directly from the first game. Since 2008, the new starting quarterback Joe Flacco was drafted, managed Reed and the Ravens over five consecutive years in the play-offs (2008-2012 ). In his first Super Bowl on February 3, 2013 in New Orleans against the San Francisco 49ers, the Baltimore Ravens won the Super Bowl XLVII of the 2012 season with 34:31. Before that, the Ravens were able to win only once the Super Bowl (Super Bowl XXXV on January 28, 2001 in Tampa, Florida, 34:7 win against the New York Giants ).

In March 2013 Reed moved to the Houston Texans. Already in November 2013, he was released by the Texans and signed shortly thereafter a contract with the New York Jets.

Reed holds 107 yards with the NFL record for the longest interception return (November 23, 2008) and with 358 yards set the record for most interception return yards in a season ( 2004).

With the exception of his rookie season in 2002 and the 2005 season Reed was elected each year in the Pro Bowl.

Private

Reed sets himself up in his " Ed Reed Foundation " for disadvantaged children.

On 6 ( 7 ) January 2011 fled the brother of Ed Reed, Brian Reed, after he should be arrested by the police for drunk driving by jumping into the Mississippi. The end of January was salvaged his body.
