Edd Roush J ( born May 8, 1893 in Oakland City, Indiana; † 21 May 1988 in Bradenton, Florida) was an American baseball player in Major League Baseball.

Biography

The center fielder Edd Roush played his first game in the American League for the Chicago White Sox on August 20, 1913. 1914 joined the left-hander in the Federal League for the Indianapolis Hoosiers, who paid him a salary of $ 2000. In 1915 he moved to the Newark Peppers, which doubled him his salary. After setting the Federal League in 1916, he moved first to the New York Giants, before he moved to the Cincinnati Reds during the season.

With the Reds in 1919, he reached the World Series, which they won against the Chicago White Sox. In his years in Cincinnati, he never had a lower batting average than 32.1 %. 1917 and 1919 he won the title of best hitter in the National League. His best year he had in 1921 with 35.2 %, but was unable to surpass the mark of Rogers Hornsby.

From 1927 to 1929 he was playing for the New York Giants. After an injury he had suffered in 1929, reduced the Giants his salary to $ 15,000 for 1930. Roush refused to sign this contract, and sat out the entire season. A year later, he was sold back to the Reds, where he played his last game in Major League Baseball on 27 September 1931.

Roush impressed not only by its impact qualities mainly by an exceptionally good game field. A specialty of him was that he always used extremely heavy baseball bat. According to his own statements he had in his entire career, not a single broken bat.

1962 Roush was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. In 1988, he died at the age of 94 years.
