Eddie Crook, Jr.

Edward " Eddie" Crook ( born April 19, 1929 in Detroit, Michigan, † July 26, 2005 in Montgomery, Alabama ) was an American boxer. He was a member of the 1960 U.S. Boxstaffel at the Summer Olympic Games in Rome. After victories over Fidel Odremán, Venezuela ( TKO 1 ), Peter Odhiambo, Uganda (5-0 ), a controversial judgment in the final battle against Poland Tadeusz Walasek, Lo - Pu Chang, South Korea ( TKO 3 ), Ion Monea, Romania (KO 2 ), and a controversial final victory over Tadeusz Walasek, Poland ( 3:2 ), was Crook Olympic champion at middleweight ( - 75kg).

In addition, Crook was a military world champion of 1959 and 1960 in the Light Middleweight ( 71kg - ).

After his playing career Crook twice served as a soldier in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. For his services he was awarded two Purple Hearts, a Silver Star and a Bronze Star.
