Eddie Dean (singer)

Eddie Dean ( born July 9, 1907 in Posey, Texas, as Edgar Dean Glosup; † March 4, 1999 in Los Angeles, California ) was an American country musician and actor. Dean had in addition to his career as a singer some success as a cowboy actor in several B- Western.

Life

Childhood and youth

Eddie Dean was born Edgar Dean Glosup 1907 in Texas, son of a farmer and a music teacher. His mother taught him to sing and 1926 Dean moved to Chicago, Illinois, where he took his stage name.

Career

In Chicago, he tried to gain a foothold on the radio, but got only a few guest appearances. A year later, Dean began in Shenandoah, Iowa, to work. In 1929, he began with his brother Jimmy, who is not to be confused with another musician named Jimmy Dean, performing and from 1933 they were regular guests at the famous National Barn Dance on WLS. In 1935, she played for the American Record Corporation, their respective first plates and took for the new label Decca Records and Gospel on.

After the two brothers had separated, Dean decided in 1936 to go to Hollywood. He began to take on roles in smaller Western and took in the years 1941 and 1942 eight singles, including the song On The Banks of the Sunny San Juan. His breakthrough as an actor managed Dean 1944, when he starred in the movie The Harmony Trail. In subsequent years, Dean should take the lead role in more than 19 Western and is still regarded as one of the ten best "Singing Cowboys " of the 1940s.

In 1948 Dean focused on his career as a musician. Although he had in 1948 with the title One Has My Name ( The Other Has My Heart) a success in the country charts, but his following singles were not hits and despite a clear, strong voice he did not succeed in the music scene walking to grasp. In the 1950s, Dean was mainly at Sage & Sand Records, where he had his greatest success. He started in the country show Town Hall Party and had to occur in 1955 with I Dreamed of a Hillbilly Heaven his greatest success. The song reached # 10 in the Hot Country Songs and was taken up by Dean's fellow actors Tex Ritter beginning of the 1960s. Dean tried his hand as a songwriter. His title One Has My Name ( The Other Has My Heart ) was recorded in 1961 by Jimmy Wakely and 1969 by Jerry Lee Lewis, but here Dean could not hinaukommen over moderate success.

Dean led in the 1960s and 1970s, his career as a musician with small labels with little success further. He was inducted into the Cowboy Hall of Fame in 1993. Dean was also a founder of the Academy of Country Music was founded in 1990 and honored with induction into the Western Music Association Hall of Fame and in 1992 with the entry into the Western Swing Society Hall of Fame. Dean died in 1999 in Los Angeles at the age of 91 years.
