Eddie Doherty

Edward " Eddie" J. Doherty ( born October 30, 1890 in Chicago, Illinois, † 1975) was an American author and screenwriter who was nominated once for an Academy Award for best original story.

Life

Doherty worked as a journalist for several newspapers and has written numerous novels and short stories before he also created some templates for movies in the 1930s and 1940s.

He co-authored with Jules Schermer the screenplay for Five Heroes ( The Sullivans, 1944), a war drama about five brothers who served in the U.S. Navy. In the directed by Lloyd Bacon film Anne Baxter, Thomas Mitchell and Selena Royle played the lead roles. Doherty and Schermer were nominated for the Oscar for best original story, but the price then was Leo McCarey for the film The Road to Happiness.

In 1943 he married the Russian -derived Ekaterina Fyodorovna Kolyschkine de Hueck, who had founded the Missionary Society of Friendship House in the early 1930s. After marriage, followed by numerous books with religious content, but also a biography of his wife, under the title Tumbleweed: A Biography of Catherine Doherty and a biography of the founder of the Order of Montfort, Louis -Marie de Montfort entitled Wisdom 's Fool: A Biography of St. Louis de Montfort. In addition, he and his wife founded in 1947 Madonna House Apostolate lay movement

1969 Doherty received due to the rite of the Melkite Greek Catholic Church ordained a priest by the Erzeparch the archeparchy Akka, Joseph -Marie Raya.
