Eddie Fenech Adami

Edward Fenech Adami ( born February 7, 1934 in Birkirkara) from 2004 to 2009, President of Malta.

He studied law, was in 1959 a lawyer and in 1977 chairman of the conservative Christian Democrats National. In 1987 he was elected Prime Minister and re-elected in 1992. In 1996, he lost the election, but was re-appointed in 1998. Edward Fenech Adami supported the accession of Malta to the EU.

On 7 February 2004, he resigned as party chairman, on 23 March the Prime Minister. His successor in both offices was Lawrence Gonzi. On 4 April 2004 he was elected as the successor to President Guido de Marco. On April 4, 2009, he was replaced by George Abela.
