Eddie Jones (jazz musician)

Edward " Eddie" Jones ( born March 1, 1929 in New York City; † 31 May 1997 in Hartford, Connecticut ) was an American jazz bassist. He played in the Count Basie band.

Life and work

Eddie Jones grew up like Count Basie in Red Bank (New Jersey), where he was a neighbor of Basie. He started in 1946 at Howard University, bass, study played in 1950 with Sarah Vaughan and Lester Young and worked 1951/2 as a music teacher in South Carolina before he became a member of the Count Basie band, he from 1954 to 1962 belonged to and on the recordings participated Joe Williams Sings, Count Basie at Newport, as well as legendary recordings for the Roulette label ( the Atomic Mr. Basie ) - from albums like April in Paris, Count Basie Swings. In addition to his work with Basie took Eddie Jones disks with Ruby Braff, Osie Johnson, Bob Brookmeyer, Milt Jackson ( Opus De Jazz, 1955), Hank Jones 1957 Dave Lambert 1955, Thad Jones 1956/57, Paul Quinichette 1957, Frank Wess ( I Hear Ya Talkin ', 1959), Coleman Hawkins and Lem Winchester ( 1960) on. In 1962 he gave up the jazz music and started working for IBM. He later became vice president of an insurance company. From the 1980s, he also played jazz music on again, eg 1989 on the album of Frank Wess, also an ex- Basie - man Dear Mr. Basie ( Concord ).

Eddie Jones is not to be confused with the blues guitarist Eddie " Guitar Slim " Jones.
