Eddie Shu

Eddie Shu (* as Edward Shulman on August 18, 1918 in Brooklyn, New York, † July 4, 1986 in Tampa, Florida) was an American jazz tenor and alto saxophonist of the swing.

Eddie Shu learned as a child, first violin and guitar, but later played saxophone. He first worked in 1948 with Tadd Dameron and George Shearing, and thereafter with Johnny Bothwell, Buddy Rich and Les Elgart. He played from 1949 to 1950 in the band of Lionel Hampton, 1950/51 with Charlie Barnet and 1952 with Chubby Jackson. Shu had 1953/54, own formations in New York and was from 1954 to 1958 Member of Gene Krupa band. He then worked as a freelance musician in Cuba and Florida. In the 1960s he played in Louis Armstrong's All Stars lineup, 1966 again at Hampton. In 1973, he worked with Gene Krupa recent live recordings before his death with. Shu was known as multi-instrumentalist; except he played saxophones and clarinet, trumpet and harmonica and also performed as a singer in appearance. He lived most recently in Tampa.
