Eddy Stibbe

Eddy Stibbe ( born 1 November 1948) is a Dutch rider. He was one of the leading event riders in the Netherlands. Since 1999 he start in international competitions for the Netherlands Antilles.

Stibbe was born into a family of riders. His mother Ans denied some international ladies riding competitions, his father Daddy had jumpers and Chairman of the Dutch Equestrian Federation ( NBVR ).

Eddy Stibbe sat himself at the age of three years for the first time on a horse, but showed little interest and initially preferred to play hockey, soccer and was in the water skiing junior champion of the province of North Brabant.

1964 and 1965 Stibbe was Dutch junior champion in show jumping. In 1971, he earned his first competition in military riding.

His greatest success Stibbe at the European Eventing Championships. In 1989 he won the Dutch Military team at Burghley the silver medal. The best placement in the individual competition he reached in 1993 Achselschwang when he behind the Frenchman Jean -Louis Bigot and the Briton Kristina Gifford won the bronze medal with his horse Bahlua.

Stibbe since 1972 took a total of five times at the Olympics in part. At the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney Stibbe reached the 13th place in the individual competition. The 2004 Olympic Games in Athens were less successful for him. After treatment he was still on rank 38, but fell back in the country riding on rank 58. Disputes with the Dutch Equestrian Federation repeatedly led to the fact that Stibbe took in competitions for other nations. In 1974 he rode for a year for Ireland, after denying him the Dutch association for the start of the event at Punchestown Irish.

When the Dutch Association in 1998 did not report him at the Military World Championships, joined Stibbe 1999 federation of the Netherlands Antilles.

Stibbe has lived since 1994 in Waresly ( Cambridgeshire) and is married to the British rider Mandy Jeakins. Until April 2004 he was a member of the Eventing Committee of the International Equestrian Federation ( FEI ) for four years. 2000 awarded him the International Olympic Committee the Olympic Order.
