History
Eddyville was named after the fur traders Jabish P. Eddy, who received in 1840 the right to establish a trading post on the Des Moines River. The town was founded in 1843 and developed because of its location well, but was built only to the railway line to Des Moines. The mining of coal in Wapello County was made in 1857, including through the Roberts Mine, located directly on the opposite bank of the Des Moines River.
Economy
Eddyville is located in the middle of Iowa cornfields. Cargill produced from this raw material, ethanol, corn syrup and gluten. Ajinomoto and Wacker Chemie operate small factories.
