Edelweiss (Band)

Edelweiss was an Austrian dance-floor project, which made it in 1988 with the title Bring Me Edelweiss in several countries at # 1 on the charts.

Band History

The first track Bring Me Edelweiss 1988 produced by Martin glacier Meyer and Walter Werzowa and sung by Maria Mathis. The chorus of the song consisted of a cover of ABBA's SOS with new text. The title was sold over three million copies, was in several countries at # 1 on the charts and received a World Music Award.

It is interesting that "Edelweiss" apparently based on the book " The Manual - How to make a number 1 hit " vorgingen of KLF in 1988, described in the Bill Drummond and Jimmy Cauty accompany the emergence of their hit " Doctorin 'the tardis " and all calling it to emulate them ( resample, steal, go full on hit ). Drummond and Cauty mention in the epilogue of the altered edition of 1998 a request of " Edelweiss " from the year 1988. "We said ' We do not need to [ produce your concept], you can do it yourself, ` handed them a copy of The Manual and sent them packing back to Austria. " (P. 151 of the 3rd edition of the new edition 1998). If you listen from this point of the first Edelweiss hit " Bring Me Edelweiss", this analogy is also evident.

An album with eight versions of Bring Me Edelweiss followed under different names. However, the successor I Can not Get No ... ( Edelweiss ) was not able to place in the charts, and it was again quiet around the band.

The stylistically similar the 1988 single " Christkind Is In the House", which reached number 28 in Austria, Walter Werzowa is attributed.

In 1992, the comeback of Edelweiss with the title spaceship Edelweiss, in the yodeling music with the title theme of the TV series Star Trek was mixed. This time Martin glacier Meyer worked with Klaus Biedermann and Paul Pfab, the producers of the Bingoboys together. Equipment was Markus Kuscher. The title made it to # 1 in Austria and in Germany the figure at number 7 It also appeared a Promo Maxi - CD for radio stations that contain additional versions that are not found on the normal Maxi and the album (including a German Intro). Also the band was Christian Clerici ( in the video for Spaceship Edelweiss was featured), who later became known through various TV shows.

It was followed by the album Wonderful World Of Edelweiss, from which the title Planet Edelweiss ( 14th place in Austria, not represented in the German charts ) and a ski instructor were released. Shortly before the publication of the former Single committed the band member Thomas Schlögl from largely unknown reasons suicide. All promotional activities were discontinued and then took the video for the single from the market.

In 1997, another comeback attempt with the title precious dollars wedding march, a dance version of the Wedding March. However, the title was unsuccessful.
