Eden is a city in Concho County in the U.S. state of Texas in the United States.

Geography

The city lies at the intersection of U.S. Highway 83 with U.S. Highway 87 in the south-east of the county, near the geographic center of Texas.

Demographic data

According to the census of 2000, there were 2,561 people in 499 households, and 333 families. The population density was 406.9 inhabitants per km ². The racial the population was composed of 90.63 % White, 1.52 % African American, 0.35 % Native American, 0.04 % Asian, 0.16 % Pacific Islander residents from the and 6.48 % from other ethnic groups. Approximately 0.82% were of mixed descent, and 51.43 % of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 499 households 32.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them. 51.9 % were married couples living together. 12.8 % had a female householder with no husband, and 33.1 % were non-families. 31.7 % of all households were single-person households, and 17.6 % had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.39 and the average family size amounted to 3.00.

12.3% of the population were under 18 years old, 12.7 % from 18 to 24, 47.4 % 25-44, 16.6% from 45 to 64, and 11.0 % who were 65 years or older. The average age was 34 years. For every 100 females of all ages were 262.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over 320.6 males.

The median income for a household was $ 28,636, and the median income for a family $ 34,750. Males had a median income of $ 17,341 versus $ 20,000 for females. The per capita income was $ 12,119. 15.6 % of the population and 8.8 % of families are below the poverty line. Of which 21.8 % have children under the age of 18 and 16.9 % of those 65 or older.
