Edgar Anstey

Harold " Edgar " Macfarlane Anstey ( born February 16, 1907 in Watford, Hertfordshire, England; † September 26, 1987 in London) was a British film producer.

Life

Anstey studied at Birkbeck College and worked after the end of his education, first as a clerk in the public service. In 1930 he joined the film department of the Empire Marketing Board, a state body for consumer research and public relations for British goods. There he was a student of the pioneering documentary filmmaker John Grierson. Even with his sister Ruby Grierson he worked. After the EMB was closed in late 1933, it was 1935 production manager of the London branch of the U.S. newsreel production The March of Time. During the Second World War he produced short films for the British government. After the war, he joined British Transport Films, he was also during the 1940s worked as a film critic for The Spectator. Mid-1950s, he was appointed head of the British Film Academy. He was also a Senior Fellow of the Royal College of Art

Between 1964 and 1967 he was nominated three consecutive years for the Oscar, on his third nomination in 1967 he was able to accept the award for the short film Wild Wings.
